ROOT 23 Proactively Recalls Batch of Simple Syrup
Thermal process deviation results in voluntary recall of Cucumber Habanero syrup
COLUMBUS, OH – ROOT 23 and its manufacturer, Sharpy’s Food Systems dba Savory Food Creations (SFS), are voluntarily recalling a batch of Cucumber Habanero syrup after production process control documentation review indicated a deviation from the standard thermal process (the temperature at which the product is bottled) protocol established at SFS.
The recall affects fewer than 400 bottles of Root 23's Cucumber Habanero Simple Syrup, (375 ml size, batch code 51009462, date code 070320, shipped between 9/5/18 & 10/16/18, images appended). To date, no adverse health impact, illness or product quality reports have been received by Root 23, SFS, State and Federal Regulatory Agencies.
“The safety of the foods we produce is always the priority,” said ROOT 23 Co-Founder Barb Stauffer. “Out of an abundance of caution and with the advice of our manufacturer, we have initiated a voluntary recall, which reinforces our commitment to excellence and the high standards we expect from our supply chain partners. Retained, control samples maintained by SFS are being tested by an independent process authority and a food test lab to validate food safety. Regulatory agencies, the ODA & the FDA, have been an invaluable resource and support in guiding us through this process. Our production standards exceed regulatory requirements to ensure food safety. However, any deviation, irrespective of magnitude, is unacceptable to Root 23 & SFS. Based on our standards, we decided to recall 400 jars because food safety is a serious matter to us and we apologize for any inconvenience.
The recall is limited exclusively to this particular batch of syrups. No other ROOT 23 products or Cucumber Habanero batches are affected. Possible range of distribution for these 400 bottles includes, but may not be limited to, Ohio, Michigan, California, Louisiana, Georgia, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Colorado, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Arizona.
